Conquering Crohn's Disease | Wim Hof Method
My name is Hans Emmink.
In 2012 I came into contact with Wim because I have Crohn's disease.
Crohn's disease is an autoimmune disease.
It's an auto immune disease like Multiple Sclerosis,
Ulcerosa, Bekhterev, Rheumatism.
Your immune system is dysregulated and it attacks your own body.
And that results in inflammation,
and with Crohn's, that's inflammation throughout your digestive tract.
From your mouth to your anus,
and everything in between can become inflamed.
It also has been inflamed, sometimes in several places at the same time.
There's not really a solution for it.
They can only give you medication to suppress that inflammation,
and something that breaks your immune system down,
and if the first pill doesn’t work, you’ll keep getting higher dosed pills.
At one point I was
in the fourth group of medication and my next step would be biologicals.
So that you either need to have IV therapy or that you have to inject yourself,
and that’s when all the alarm bells really went off for me.
I started searching,
thank God I found Wim.
I contacted Wim and he said:
‘’If you start practicing my method you can get rid of that inflammation.’’
So that’s what I did.
I followed a workshop with him and then I felt so good that
it felt like my body's reset button was turned on
and then I made the decision that I’m just going to do this.
So I started practicing the method everyday.
Then I noticed quite quickly that
the intensity of my symptoms would reduce,
and at some point there where breaks between my flare-ups.
That was something I already no longer recognized at all.
So that motivated me more and more and then it took
eight months to actually get rid of Crohn's disease.
Now I’m nine years off medication and I don’t have any physical complaints anymore.
There are a lot of Crohn’s patients coming to me,
and sooner or later they all get off their medication.
The longest one took 15 months,
and the shortest one took 2 months.
That's something that for me is still not really quite clear,
is that person-specific, men or women?
There is no pattern here.
It really is different for each person.
You have to do it yourself though,
I’m nine years down the road and still I do the breathing, and I still do cold exposure.
You keep at it.
I'm motivated to keep doing it is because I don't want it to flare up again.
That is my motivation to keep practicing the method.
