Scars Can Give You Health Issues Decades Later - Dr. Ekberg

Time: 0

a lot of people are concerned with scars because of their appearance but what's

Time: 4.08

much more important is how scars can interfere with your health stay tuned

Time: 9.12

and I'll explain hey I'm Dr. Sten Ekberg with wellness for life and by

Time: 17.1

subscribing to our channel you will learn everything that you need to know

Time: 21.029

to master true health most of us have scars and sometimes they can be annoying

Time: 26.16

we can be concerned with how they look especially if they're in a prominent

Time: 30.029

location but very few people know how they can affect health how they can

Time: 35.399

interfere with healing and the effects can be anywhere from negligible to

Time: 41.43

absolutely devastating in our office we check for scars one of the first things

Time: 47.01

that we do and if we find them we show people how they can treat the scars and

Time: 51.66

in a lot of cases that can be the key factor to allow the body to proceed to

Time: 57.75

healing but first of all what is the scar scar is the product of repair the

Time: 64.559

body has had an injury and it tries to repair it but the result looks different

Time: 71.7

it feels different and it has different signal properties and that's what we're

Time: 77.759

concerned with so when you grew the body the first time then everything was

Time: 82.5

moving you had tension you had fluid motion and all the fibers aligned in an

Time: 89.159

orderly fashion when you have a cut and the body repairs of the scar then the

Time: 95.43

fiber orientation is much more random and that's why the tissue looks

Time: 100.439

different but again it's signals differently and that's why we're

Time: 105.479

concerned there's two things that scars do the first is it interferes with

Time: 111.799

regulation what is regulation everything in your body from blood pressure to

Time: 118.86

hormone levels to digestion to posture to muscle tone to thoughts to attitudes

Time: 125.67

to focus everything in your body is the result of brain turning things on and

Time: 131.52

off so the brain receives somewhere in the

Time: 134.969

order of a billion bits of information every second and every one of those bits

Time: 139.95

is responded to the brain responds by turning something on or turning

Time: 145.439

something off the sum total of all that turning on and off is called regulation

Time: 151.219

the better it works the healthier you are the more of it that gets a little

Time: 157.95

out of balance the more problems we start having so regulation is huge and

Time: 164.219

scars can interfere with regulation the second thing is scars actually caused

Time: 170.549

stress and why is that well have you ever noticed if you remember how you are

Time: 177.78

sort of just sitting around not thinking much and all of a sudden somebody

Time: 183.239

touched you maybe just a hair and you jumped and your pupils dilated your hair

Time: 189.719

stood on end your heart raced you got the shivers that was an a stress

Time: 195.48

response also called a startle response and that's part of the fight flight

Time: 201.959

reaction that's there to save your life well the reason your skin is so

Time: 207.449

sensitive and those hairs are so sensitive is that's your first line of

Time: 211.5

defense in order for your body to survive you have to be ultra sensitive

Time: 215.609

in the skin and anything in the skin that's touched has the ability to

Time: 220.919

trigger that fight flight response so a scar that can interfere with that signal

Time: 228.359

can also create a fight flight response even if you don't get the startle effect

Time: 234.419

that you notice even a little bit matters because it ramps up that fight

Time: 239.639

flight or that sympathetic response just a little bit and over time that can be

Time: 245.129

significant one of the oldest healing arts in the world is acupuncture it's

Time: 250.53

been around for thousands and thousands of years so they must be doing something

Time: 254.849

right and I'm not claiming to be an expert on acupuncture but I do know a

Time: 259.53

few things and that is that acupuncture is based on a Meridian system

Time: 265.53

marillion is a channel of information there's something that they refer to as

Time: 270.78

chi or energy that flows in these channels and these channels run in the

Time: 277.62

skin so if there's a scar that intercepts one of these channels one of

Time: 283.59

these meridians then that information is going to come up to the scar and it's

Time: 289.2

going to either stop or get randomly scattered and dispersed and why can that

Time: 295.32

be devastating well think about in acupuncture they put a needle someplace

Time: 300.9

in an acupuncture point maybe in the head or in the hand and somehow that

Time: 307.41

needle effects the liver or the kidneys well that's because there is some flow

Time: 313.86

of information between that point and the organ that they're trying to

Time: 318.12

influence so in other words putting a needle somewhere changes the way the

Time: 323.58

body processes information and that's part of this overall regulation so again

Time: 330.12

if a scar interferes with that now regulation is not working as smoothly

Time: 334.919

and as fine-tuned as it's supposed to as the body and nature intended one of the

Time: 342.45

most common things that we see in the office is women who have anxiety and

Time: 349.58

depression after childbirth everyone's heard of postpartum depression and we

Time: 356.88

find that there is a scar involved not the sole cause necessarily but there is

Time: 363.33

a scar involved in most of those cases if you notice on this close-up of the

Time: 369.45

Meridian systems how many of these meridians run in the midline and if you

Time: 375.66

think about how many women deliver with a c-section today I don't know the exact

Time: 381.27

number but it's somewhere around 50% I believe and if you imagine how many of

Time: 387.03

these meridians that could be intercepted by a c-section scars

Time: 392.51

anywhere from five to seven meridians and the midline meridians have a

Time: 398.4

this influence on the nervous system here's a list of some of the most common

Time: 402.93

scars that we run into of course surgeries being the most devastating

Time: 406.919

because they are large and deep and c-section is one of the most profound of

Time: 411.539

those but any cut that whether you had stitches or not that healed with a mark

Time: 419.37

is usually an active scar meaning it interferes with something another

Time: 424.71

interesting one is the belly button that's the first score that we get and

Time: 429.12

there is an e remarkable number of people who actually test as having a

Time: 434.07

belly button as an active scar meaning it interferes in some way then there's

Time: 439.199

all sorts of piercings and tattoos and and pulled teeth all of these can create

Time: 446.82

interference of course people are concerned with the appearance and that

Time: 451.349

is another aspect of it so people wonder will they go away and I don't know that

Time: 456.87

they will completely and totally disappear even though that has been

Time: 460.41

known to happen they will typically reduce in appearance a lot of times 50%

Time: 466.65

or more they get thinner and more faint but again we want to keep in mind that

Time: 472.32

the key is to reduce the interference with a signal did the detrimental effect

Time: 478.08

that they can have on your health so if scars are so devastating why doesn't

Time: 483.33

everyone notice these effects was for the same reason that not everyone gets a

Time: 488.76

cold or the flu every time it comes around the body have different amounts

Time: 493.77

of resources some people have a lot of resources a lot of vitality a lot of

Time: 499.139

energy strong immune systems strong brains to compensate and adapt and

Time: 505.47

overcome so someone who has a lot of reserve capacity will probably never

Time: 511.169

notice a scar even though it stresses them a little bit that little stress is

Time: 516.12

no big deal because they can adapt someone else who has a much lesser

Time: 521.52

reserve it doesn't take a whole lot to set off that whole process before we

Time: 527.1

wrap up and talk about what to do let's also mention what not

Time: 531.26

to do a lot of people go to the drugstore and they buy the medical

Time: 537.17

appointments the antibiotics the cortisone creams the antibiotic creams

Time: 542.87

and that's really not a good idea if you have a severe local infection that's

Time: 548.96

where those creams might come in handy but these things are antibiotics they

Time: 555.32

interfere antibiotic means against life it's going to kill something and on your

Time: 561.41

skin you have a bacterial flora that flora goes from the outside of your skin

Time: 567.14

all the way inside into your gut where 85% of your immune system lives and part

Time: 573.38

of your immune system and your health lives on your skin as well so you want

Time: 579.02

to cooperate with that biological culture that you have you don't want to

Time: 585.41

interfere with it so stay away from those creams unless you have something

Time: 590.06

of a more urgent medical nature the treatment of scars is really pretty

Time: 595.22

simple and the things that reduce their appearance is the same thing that will

Time: 600.32

improve the signal properties so you can't really go wrong there here is a

Time: 604.97

list of some of the things that we use in our office we have found them to be

Time: 609.38

very effective they're good quality these are typically only sold by

Time: 614.18

professionals but if you look around in your community then most chiropractors

Time: 618.14

will have a lot of these brands you can call us if you'd like more information

Time: 623.33

about it you can also go online and look there are lots of videos about essential

Time: 629.45

oils and and this oil and that oil and they typically work really really well

Time: 633.44

so that's not the key thing for most people another thing you can add is cold

Time: 639.05

laser and cold laser works great oils work great and the combination works

Time: 645.17

even better and there's a combination of the the rubbing which activates

Time: 651.47

receptors and the light and the nutrients in the oil so all put together

Time: 657.11

then the combination works really well so let me show you how easy it can be to

Time: 662.66

do one of the applications I'm gonna show you the

Time: 667

little pearl of standard process wheat germ oil and you take a push pin or a

Time: 673.45

safety pin you just poke it into the side and you make a hole and then you

Time: 680.02

get a drop out you put it on the skin and just rub it in so you don't need a

Time: 688.93

whole lot of oil you want to use it kind of like a lotion to where you can rub it

Time: 694.36

into the skin and it doesn't get all greasy with a lot of residue so then you

Time: 700.24

can add some laser to it and that's about it
